Mobile Manga
In a move aimed at putting Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. at the top of the growing mobile comic market, the company has announced plans to roughly triple the amount of comics made available for Japanese viewers. Mobile Manga has been around for about a year thanks to the development of technology to encode pictures for rapid transfer to the mobile phone screen. Customers currently have access to a selection of these comic books, pages of which are navigated around using the phone controls. It costs around £1.60 to buy around 5 new titles per month and Sony is set to expand the market by signing up a range of popular artists to exclusive contracts. Surely it is just a matter of time until this technology hits these shores as looking at graphic novels seems a more feasible use of mobile technology at its current stage, rather than lofty plans of streamed TV and so on. Anyone else thinking Mobile Marvel?
