Sony launches NV-U81T and NV-U80 nav-u satellite navigation devices
Sony has launched two new satellite navigation devices under the nav-u banner – the NV-U81T and NV-U80 – both of which feature Position Plus technology, to keep your location on-screen, even when the GPS signal is compromised.
Sony’s Position Plus technology offers accurate positioning and route information even when the GPS signal is poor, for example, when you’re beneath a tunnel or bridge, between tall buildings or trees with dense foliage. An acceleration sensor and a pressure sensor interpret vehicle motion to provide reliable positioning during such interruptions.
The unit itself features a 4.3-inch widescreen display with large buttons and icons to enter destination information and select other functions. Frequently-used commands like "take me home" (in case you’d forgotten) or "find the nearest petrol station" are one-touch. And for safer mobile handling, it can also dial a hands-free call via a Bluetooth-equipped phone with a "single gesture". The nav-u units also offers both the traditional route view and Dynamic Route Information, which presents an "abstract" view of route, petrol stations and other point of interest and traffic information.
The NV-U81T stores a full European map (37 countries) on its 4GB hard disk drive that is protected against bumps strong shocks and vibrations by Sony’s HDD protection technology. The NV-U80 stores a country-specific map in its 512MB memory. Other maps can be uploaded via the supplied European map DVD-ROM. The NV-U81T also supports Traffic Message Channel information (optional on NV U80). Both will be available from November, prices to be confirmed.
