Toshiba has announced that it plans to release the first laptop PC that supports writing of the HD DVD-R (write-once) format of high definition optical disc. It will essentially be an upgrade of the Qosmio G30 laptop released last year.

It’s based on a 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, with 17inch widescreen able to display 1920×1280 resolution. It will also feature a 320GB hard drive, digital TV tuner, and HDMI output, and it will run Vista Home Premium Edition.

No news on pricing or UK availability yet – Japan will get it first.
