In Tokyo on 28 March, a human sized android picked up a 30 kg package from a desk and a 66 kg humanoid doll from a bed. The reason this is cool is, it isn’t just using more powerful motors, which are prone to burn out and, as they say in Manhattan, sometimes, they can explode. It has delicate servos and sensors which allow it to distribute the weight with near-human-like delicacy, meaning androids could soon be available to do the joint-wrecking parts of nursing. [GT]
