Parrot have just announced a cool new AR game for the AR.Drone.

The AR Drone is a remote controlled quadrotor helicopter with built in wifi and 2 cameras – controlled via the iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad. Parrot, have now integrated augmented reality into this toy to bring users a whole new experience where they can play a high tech game of cat and mouse with onboard cameras allowing gamers to exchange roles of the “pursuer” by use of ‘on board’ weapons.

The game that takes advantage of the technical and flying capabilities of the Parrot AR.Drone, and creates new challenges for the player by testing their piloting skills.

The 2-player game is a classic game of cat and mouse in which one player has to escape from the other one. The “pursuer” has two kinds of virtual weapons to strike its opponent – the automatic machine gun and missiles.

When using the machine gun, bullets are automatically fired in order to slow down the other player as soon as the frontal camera detects the pursued AR.Drone. When hit the AR.Drone will physically ‘react’ to the attack and the escape maneuvers will be more difficult for the pilot.

Alternatively when using missiles, when the opponent is locked on the screen, the pilot of the pursuing AR.Drone has to shake their iPhone to send a missile. When it is hit by a missile, the “pursued” becomes “pursuer” and so on. At half time, the roles are automatically reversed.

The winner is the player who escapes for the longest time during the entire game.

Although the graphics aren’t amazing, it is a really great way of adding a whole new level of entertainment to the remote controlled toy.

The game will be available November 26th in the App Store for £1.79
