Nikon's Smurf-sized Coolpix S01 compact camera revealed
Compact cameras don’t come much more, erm, compact than Nikon’s Coolpix S01.
Measuring just 51.2 x 77 x 17.2mm and weighing 96 grams, it’s far smaller than even your average slim-line smartphone, and comes complete with a 10MP CCD image sensor, 3x optical zoom (29 to 87mm) and a 2.5-inch touchscreen display for previewing snaps.
With little room for manoeuvre, Nikon have put plenty of work into making the onboard GUI as intuitive and easily navigable as possible.
“By tapping a subject, the shutter is automatically released when focus and exposure are fixed while various image effects set prior to shooting can be applied to pictures. Additionally, simple in-camera retouching of photos can help the user relive their perfect memory,” reads the press release.
Using the Nikon’s Expeed C2 image-processor and a Xenon flash, the camera also offers 6 scene modes, including portrait, landscape, night portrait, night landscape, close-up and backlighting, with an Easy Auto Mode that does the guess work as to what’s most appropriate for the shot you’re taking for you.
Hitting shops on 27 September, the Coolpix S01 will cost £149.99.
