Will the Nokia Tube handset be the saviour of mobile TV?
Over at the Nokia-obsessed blog NokNok, a very valid point has been raised. We’ve all been banging on about the recently- announced-but-still- unannounced Tube handset, but have never once pondered on the significance of the name.
At a recent press conference in Helsinki, their Head of Internet Services, Niklas Savander, spoke about mobile TV, claiming “it’s all a bit in turmoil”, and that Nokia “have seen that there are multiple segments who are not interested in the broadcasting, but rather in downloads”, however to date, they’ve been the biggest advocate for the service, with handsets such as the N95 and upcoming N96 ripe for the stream.
With the Tube handset’s 16:9 display, ‘iPhone killer’ reputation thanks to Nokia’s Tom Libretto’s gloating, and of course its name, could this handset lead the way in TV broadcasting handsets?
