Thumbnail image for bbc_iplayer.jpgThe consumer-popular and industry-terrifying whirling dervish that is the BBC iPlayer has hit over 75million downloads in the short time since December that it’s been officially live.

According to one UK ISP, it had looked like its popularity was leveling off but BBC figures showed there were 21million programme requests in April, 20% more than March.

The Apprentice and Dr Who were top of the list of the 700,000 requests which cover an even demographic of ages and computers with 1 in 10 users viewing from Macs and 3% coming from iPhones and iTouches.

Expect to hear more grumblings from ISPs in the coming days; “they’re stealing the internet” and such.
