Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars exclusive heading to Nintendo DS
It’s traditional for every console maker to come up with a big surprise for E3. Some struggle to stay under wraps in the monstrous hype preceding the event, but other come as a very pleasant bolt from the blue. Nintendo achieved the latter with the announcement of GTA: Chinatown Wars for Nintendo DS.
The new GTA title was announced during Ninty’s E3 press conference yesterday in LA town. Very little is actually known about the game so far other than that it was not a GTA IV Wii port which has been hopefully rumoured for a while. But a scaled down, entirely new title is probably a better deal than a severely scaled down port, and previous GTA titles have done well on handhelds, including Grand Theft Auto Advance on GBA.
Here are the few snippets of information about the game that we do know. It will use the DS’ touch screen technology (duh), and it will also sport an online mode (well, the Nintendo WiFi icon adorns the game’s official page), which will trump previous PSP offerings.
The studio behind it is Rockstar Leeds, formerly known as Mobius, which worked on both PSP GTA titles and, more relevantly, Max Payne GBA back in 2001.
GTA: Chinatown Wars is (currently) due out this Winter
