BT Voyager finally sets sail
How long does it take to get a product to market? Six months? A year? Well if you are BT and the product is the Voyager Digital Media Player it is actually over two years.
We first clocked this neat little hi-fi cum wireless music streamer when it won an innovation award at the CES show in Las Vegas in January 2002. Now we are pleased to see it has gone on sale in the UK for £160.
It is kind of like a mini radio with speakers that’s permanently tuned to your PC in that it can playback MP3s stored on your computer as well as any CDs you might have in your CD drive. It also lets you tune into internet radio and comes with an integrated FM tuner.
Weirdly the device doesn’t use Wi-Fi like rival devices but transmits over the air via FM.
