iPod tax proposed in Holland

Could be bad news for iPod owners in The Netherlands. Apparently the Dutch Government is being lobbied by rights holders group Stichting de ThuisKopie to put a tax on MP3 players which will then be paid to artists and producers. According to the Dutch press, the tax would come to €3.28 per gigabyte of storage. That means a 60GB iPod photo would rise in price from €469 to €665. This, on top of the new draconian copyright punishments sneaked through the house of representatives in America (in the guise of an act allowing family friendly DVD software) could mean that life is going to get real hard for digital music lovers.
