Nokia and Intel to develop mobile WiMAX

Although details are thin on the ground at the moment, it looks Nokia has joined up with Intel to develop WiMAX, a long distance broadband internet technology, which would bring broadband to the humble mobile phone. Nokia’s move means that WiMAX might be closer to mobile phones then many think: Nokia reportedly lost interest in WiMAX when it was seen as just an alternative to fixed location cabled broadband, but has been attracted back by WiMAX variant 802.16e, which would allow for mobile access. Probably be a while before we see it anywhere near us, though.
