2Meg standard on BT Broadband Basic
From today noon (that’s now then) BT is upgrading customers on its £17.99 entry level service, BT Broadband Basic, from 1Mb to 2Mb. New customers will now receive 2Mb as standard while existing customers will get the upgrade free of charge.
This means that BT’s entire family of broadband products is now four times faster than it was originally – not bad especially when you consider that some service providers claim to be able to offer 8Meg but only if your house is virtually right on top of the exchange.
(For example, Bulldog Broadband promised me an 8Mb connection but after a month of me phoning them everyday to try to sort out the problem, they admitted they couldn’t even offer me a 512Kb connection. Shame on them.)
