Onkyo's new AV battleship
Onkyo is one of those companies that you only have to mention their name to send home cinephiles all wobbly at the knees. In fact they’ll probably pass out when they see that Onkyo has just delivered the replacement for its very well received TX-SR602E home cinema amp, which if we recall won an Home Cinema Choice award a few months back.
The newbie, the TX-SR603E 7.1 channel receiver, has much of the charm of its predecessors including its compatibility with a huge selection of surround sound modes, mîcrophone based acoustic room set up and 7x125watts power output. It also includes a trio of wide bandwidth (50MHz) component video inputs (plus one output) which should be handy when Sky finally launches HDTV next year and control of any nearby iPod s via its £60 DS-A1 iPod dock. There’s also a basic multi room facility on board. It goes for £399.95 – which is £50 cheaper than its predecessors.
The company has also debuted the DV-SP503E, a £300 top-end SACD/DVD player.
