Philips is hoping to take Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) one step further with the announcement of a new cordless DECT Video phone. Though VoIP phones are increasingly widespread so far they have concentrated mainly on providing voice communications (one exception is the Boni Chat from Hong Kong company iMagic but the product isn’t available in Europe yet). Called the VP5500 the Philips cordless video phone will initially launch in the Netherlands as part of a package from Dutch telecommunications company KPN.
