The biggest ever USB memory drive?
Well we’ve heard rumours of similarly sized
flash USB storage devices before but I think that this is the first to reach
store shelves. Transcend of Japan
has just brought out this vast 8GB storage device and is now retailing for ¥89,800
(around £430). As
you may have noticed, these flash devices seldom
benefit from the swiftest of transfer rates which is something that
could become a real pain when you’re shifting eight gigs of data
around. Therefore Transcend has
implemented a dual channel design to achieve a data read rate of
21MB/sec and
write speed of 11MB/sec.
Flash Drives of this capacity are being
increasingly considered as potential boot-up devices and even for the more
interesting concept of carrying a personal operating system around with you.
This kind of innovation, along with a more reasonable price tag for the device itself, is probably still a few years down the line.
