Nintendo's re-designed DS console
Share
Despite repeated denials, Nintendo has finally admitted that a new version of its handheld console, known as the DS Lite, will now be appearing. The new DS will ship in Japan from March 2nd.
A clue to the difference is in the name. The DS Lite isn’t as heavy as the current version, weighing 218g, compared to the original’s 275g. And it’s smaller – 13.3 x 7.4 x 2.2cm to 14.9 x 8.5 x 2.9cm. ‘Lite’ also suggests brightness, Nintendo said, hence the new machine’s shiny white look. Not unlike the iPod style perhaps?
Functionality is essentially the same and the selling price in Japan for this new version will be ¥16,800 ($146/£82).
