Browse the web with a Nintendo DS

Once just a cutesy games console with performing dogs, it seems Nintendo are starting to take the potential of the DS as far as they can – in Japan anyway – with the optional addition of the Opera browser, announced at a Nintendo press conference in Tokyo.

The Opera browser will be sold as a DS card. Insert it into the Wi-Fi enabled Nintendo DS, connect to a network, and browse on two screens. With an on screen keypad and stylus, you can navigate the web similar to the way you’d search via a PDA (or two PDAs!), with Opera promising high-quality rendering of pages on the DS screen(s).

According to an independent market research company in Japan, Nintendo DS has become Japan’s fastest selling video games machine, so add-ons are undoubtedly a profitable market. No date on the cards availability has been announced for either Japan or other territories.
