Solar-powered gadgets
Look out of your window and chances are (if you are UK-based) that it’ll be dull and miserable – probably not the best time to offer up a solar-powered USB drive and MP3 player! But it isn’t always like this and in warmer climbs, it’s a great way to harness natural energy.
Taiwanese manufacturers A-Data and MSI plan to unveil solar-powered flash devices at the CeBIT show. A-Data has developed the Solar Disk USB drive. In truth, it’s just a fairly standard drive with a solar-powered LCD that displays available capacity. The technology a fairly common, but you’re doing your bit for the environment.
Likewise, the MSI solar-cell MP3 player. The player itself offers nothing new, but the solar power will boost the charge in the lithium battery contained inside. While that sounds a great idea, remember, you’ll need to leave your player out in daylight to get the full effect – not in the bottom of your bag or in a drawer.
More details when we have them.
