Japanese gamers ditch home consoles for handhelds

According to Enterbrain, videogame magazine publisher, year-on-year sales of handheld games software and hardware has grown 62 per cent in Japan. Sales of home consoles and software meanwhile has dropped 18 per cent. Handheld items are now selling three times faster than home items. So is DS mania a temporary blip? Is the next generation console "transition" period biting into home console sales? Or is this evidence of an increasingly mobile gaming population?
