Netac OnlyDisk U220 – the world's smallest USB drive with built-in security
I’m not sure about this. Some time ago, we featured the Elecom MF-DU204G – claimed to be the world’s smallest external drive. Now the Netac OnlyDisk U220 is claiming the same title – or rather, it’s claiming to be the world’s smallest USB drive with built-in security, which is perhaps their get-out clause.
It’s certainly much lighter than the Elecom drive – 13g as opposed to 44g, and it’s sized at a very small 5.5 x 13.5 x 53mm, as the picture next to the matchbox demonstrates. However, the company is at pains to point out that it’s very robust, with a metal case and metal chain. Built-in security allows files to be stored securely, and unlike some other drives, cannot be hacked to access data. There is also a a "retry limit" on the password, locking the data if the wrong password is entered too many times. The drive also features "Ultra-Stable Technology" to provide protection against data or disk corruption that could occur if the drive is unplugged or powered off during data transfer.
The OnlyDisk U220 is available as 512MB, 1GB and 2GB models, with prices ranging from around £24 upwards.
