Bebo taking on YouTube with relaunch of Bebo TV
Social networking site Bebo is revamping its Bebo TV video service to compete with king of the vids, YouTube.
Bebo came into a bit of cash (well, OK, £8 million) and has set about updating its offerings to compete with the other kids on the social video sharing music networking block.
Oh look – a music download service might be coming. That’s, hmmm, original.
But the main first move is in the video sharing arena – where MySpace and YouTube currently command the lion’s share of video web searches, with over 60% between them. Bebo TV will get its own brand like the Bebo Bands channel has.
Well it’s very nice to have a choice of which video service to use – the trouble is that what’s hot one day may be distinctly lukewarm the next. It’ll be interesting to see if Bebo can make a dent in YouTube’s popularity.
