EyeTV Hybrid for Mac offers 2-in-1 TV
The EyeTV Hybrid is a new USB digital TV tuner for the Mac that will let you watch Freeview or ordinary analogue TV via an aerial connection, plus it also has a break-out cable for composite video and S-Video, so you connect a set-top box or games console.
It will record digital TV in a lossless format so you won’t lose any quality from how it was broadcast. Analogue TV can also be recorded with quality depending upon your Mac’s processor speed. It can be used with the supplied low-power antenna, if you’re lucky enough to get a strong signal where you live, or an external passive or active antenna.
As with other EyeTV products, it turns your Mac into a PVR, allowing
you to watch, pause and rewind live TV, schedule programme recording,
and save shows to the hard drive. The latest version of the software
includes full-screen menus accessible from keyboard or the supplied
remote control, and can integrate with Front Row, if you have it
installed.
I’ve got another USB digital TV tuner from EyeTV and I’m pretty
impressed with it. It will work with a G4 500MHz processor or better,
though the faster your Mac the better particularly for watching TV
whilst doing other tasks.
It’s available now for around the £100 mark.
