Plextor has launched what it claims is the world’s smallest DVD writer – the PX-608CU – just 1.6cm high and weighing 250g.

The drive, aimed at notebook users, is barely bigger than a blank disc. It supports all DVD recordable and rewriteable formats, including dual-layer discs, with write speeds ranging from 4x to 8x. It also writes to CD-R/RW discs at 24x. Connection is via USB, with no separate power source required.

It’s due to hit the shelves in October, but as yet, we’re still awaiting confirmation of price.
