British phone book archives go online

It may not help you to find a modern day phone number, but in contributing to the notion that you can get anything online, a 100-year archive of British Telecom phone directories is now available on the Ancestry website.
1880-1984 books containing over 250 million names are now fully searchable by name, year and county, and may be another technological aid to researching family history. Josh Hanna, managing director at Ancestry.co.uk, has said that the collection includes famous names like Sir Winston Churchill, Lawrence Olivier and Bram Stoker.
The first to go online will be from Greater London.
