Samsung's 931C 19 inch LCD monitor 97% colour accurate, rivals CRT?
Samsung’s latest monitor is a 19 inch LCD that offers 97% CCFL colour reproduction and 2ms response rate, meaning that it comes very close to the quality of a traditional CRT monitor.
Despite the allure of a compact, lightweight flat screen, CRTs are still preferred by those for whom a fast response rate and accurate colour reproduction is important, as LCDs generally can’t compete with the more established technology.
Samsung must be aiming to challenge this. OK, 97% colour correctness isn’t perfect, but it’s closer than other LCD monitors have been able to offer.
The SM913C is the official monitor of the World Cyber Games (WCG) 2006, the largest cyber games tournament in the world, so (money aside) it must be doing something right.
It has a decent 2000:1 contrast ratio and 250cd/m2 brightness, plus a 160º viewing angle both horizontally and vertically. It’s not widescreen, which is becoming the fashion, but despite that it sounds like a capable monitor.
Price and availability to be confirmed – it’s turned up on the Australian Samsung site but that’s not much use for us here in the UK.
