Google reveals top searches of 2006
Google has published its annual Zeitgeist report, showcasing what people searched for this year.
Not surprisingly it’s heavily biased in favour of the US audience, but nevertheless it makes for some quite interesting reading. It’s all based on Google.com traffic.
Overall, the top searches in 2006 were:
1. bebo
2. myspace
3. world cup
4. metacafe
5. radioblog
6. wikipedia
7. video
8. rebelde
9. mininova
10. wiki
So, quite a heavy dose of “Web 2.0” and social networking in there, as well as one of the major sporting events of the year.
The top searches on Google News were:
1. paris hilton
2. orlando bloom
3. cancer
4. podcasting
5. hurricane katrina
6. bankruptcy
7. martina hingis
8. autism
9. 2006 nfl draft
10. celebrity big brother 2006
Borat topped the list of “Who is” searches, whilst Hezbollah topped the “What is” searches. And the most searched for definition was ‘promiscuous’, followed by ‘Web 2.0’. Hmm…
And for a bit of celeb, here’s the top wedding searches of 2006:
