Well, we did say the iPhone was arriving Monday and so it proved. Except it had nothing to do with Apple, it was actually a series of VoIP phones from Linksys. Yes, it actually owns the iPhone name.

Anyway, let’s not dwell on Apple’s phone, rather these actually-released handsets. There’s a range of seven models available – iPhone Cordless Internet Telephony Kit (CIT200), iPhone Dual-Mode Internet Telephony Kit (CIT300), iPhone Dual-Mode Cordless Phone for Yahoo! Messenger with Voice (CIT310), iPhone Dual-Mode Internet Telephony Kit for Skype (CIT400), iPhone Wireless-G IP Phone (WIP300), iPhone Wireless-G IP Phone with Web Browser (WIP330) and iPhone Wireless-G Phone for Skype (WIP320).

All have varying features, some specifically to VoIP services, such as Skype and Yahoo! Messenger with Voice, others that offers VoIP and the option to switch to a traditional landline service. The Yahoo!-friendly phones also feature information services to access local business and weather details. The Wireless-G IP Phone (WIP330) can access music, photos, and streaming video from the net or can be used for real-time monitoring and the iPhone Wireless-G Phone for Skype (WIP320) offers wireless calling without the need for a PC – surely the big move for VoIP next year.

All are available now or will be available in the new year. Prices range from £32.99 to around £200.
