logitech_webcam_vista2.jpgThe new Vista operating system looks like it is set to push VoIP and video calling in a big way and Logitech has been happy to step in with some snazzy hardware. On display at the Unveiled session was a new webcam designed for Vista that offers a 1.3 megapixel sensor, integrated mic, RightLight 2 technology video optimisation and a wide angle lense for a 75 degree field of view.

The specific innovations for Vista make a lot of use of the new Widgets Sidebar Gadgets system and Logitech was showing off a new radar gadget that uses the camera as a motion detector so you can tell when your flatmates are sneaking into your room to look at porn and get the photographic evidence. Other tools will include QuickVideo, QuickPicture and QuickView.

These tools, while generally a little bit gimmicky, do at least look a lot more sophisticated than previous iterations of Logitech software. Plus, one slightly more innovative idea is that the camera will use an RSS system to deliver more content to the webcam owners that looks set to include video effect models, avatars and face accessories that come from the Logitech website.
