Sony is trying that little bit harder to convert you to HD on the go with the launch of two new HDV Handycam models – the HDR-HC7E and HC5E, both in the stores next month.

Both models feature Sony’s latest ClearVid CMOS Sensor technology, capture moving images in 1080i onto miniDV tape, with stills caught at 6MP and 4MP respectively. Image quality should also be boosted by the Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens and ‘Super SteadyShot’ optical image stabilisation.

Both the HC5E and HC7E can connect to your HD-ready TV via the HDMI slot, with an iLINK cable for editing via your PC. They also feature x.v.Colour, which doubles the range of colours captured, covering almost 100 percent of natural colours – loosely matching the natural characteristics of the human eye. Other features include a 2.7-inch flip-out LCD screen that uses Clear Photo LCD plus technology, Dual Rec for capturing still and moving images simultaneously, preset or manual controls (if you want to make subtle adjustments to focus, exposure, shutter speed or white balance) and an InfoLITHIUM, which should give up to 7 hours shooting from a single charge.

The Sony Handycam HDR-HC5E and HDR-HC7E will be available throughout Europe from February 2007 – pricing still to be confirmed.
