Sony Vaio G11-series notebooks – the Vaio for business

Sony has another new Vaio notebook on the market – the G11-series – a lightweight and sturdy machine aimed very much at business travellers.

The G11 weighs just 1.12kg including battery, mainly due to a carbon fibre laminate used for both the casing and lid. That also means it’s very solid – able to withstand a fall from up to 90cm, according to Sony testing. The hard drive also senses any acceleration, locking down to prevent data loss.

The machine uses an Intel Ultra-Low Voltage (ULV) processor, which means long battery life – up to nine hours. Other features include fingerprint security, hardware-level password protection, 1GB memory, 100GB hard drive, Wi-Fi, multi-format dual layer optical drive and a 12.1-inch XGA resolution screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio (rather than the consumer-orientated widescreen format). Software is Windows Vista Business.

No shelf date or price as yet, but it’s likely to be available to order in the coming weeks.
