Gigapan Robotic Panoramic Shooting Platform
Share
The Gigapan is an advanced version of the panorama mode that most digital cameras now permit. You mount the camera on a robotic swivel, and it pans the scenery, collecting hundreds of snaps which it then “quilts” together into one enormous image, like David Hockney, only, you know, real. Bypassing the entire concept of megapixels, the Gigapan photos offer huge vistas as well as tiny details. Considering how much one can do simply by stitching multiple shots together in Photoshop, a robot specifically engineered to provide gobs of the raw material shows enormous promise. $200 USD; available in March.
