BBC signs agreement with IBM for digital projects

The BBC is pushing ahead with its digital empire of late. last week it announced a deal with YouTube, this week there’s a deal with IBM to work on several joint projects.
Full details of the deal are a little vague right now, although the first joint project is said to be a “state-of-the-art” image/video search for CBeebies and CBBC programmes. That uses IBM’s “Marvel” system, which can visually analyse images/video to categorise the content based on appearance, making it more searchable and adding interactivity to the BBC’s children’s content.
The only other details announced are a deal for IBM to work with the BBC’s official technology partner, Siemens, to build new systems and ways of working for the BBC’s creative teams.
