After studying the driving habits of 100 test subjects, researchers from the University of Tokyo, Oita University, the Shimane Institute of Health Science, and Delta Tooling, developed a car seat which can tell if you’re about to have an involuntary nap. Normally this problem could only be detected if the driver was wearing a bulky electrode rig, but the smart car seat needs no such thing. It’s still in the concept stage and doesn’t do anything yet, but presumably within the next few years we can look forward to our cars shrieking, “Wake up or we’ll all die!” [GT]
