HMV and Popworld taking on MySpace with music social networking
HMV is struggling in the face of competition from online retailers and download services, so could a MySpace-style social network be the answer? The company certainly hopes so – this morning, while announcing its latest profits warning to the City, it unveiled plans to launch a social network aimed at music, film and games fans.
Meanwhile, TV show Popworld is revamping its own website with, yep, MySpace-style social networking elements (i.e. profiles and blogs). Popworld has also launched a new mobizine, which lets people check out a bunch of new bands from its Popworld Promotes site on their phones.
