Samsung debuts industry's highest density embedded flash memory card
Samsung has today announced that samples of its 8GB flash memory card have been shipped to major mobile electronics manufacturers. It is, to date, the highest density flash memory developed.
The moviNAND consists of four 50-nanometer, 16Gigabit NAND flash memories, a high-speed MultiMediaCard (MMC) controller, and associated firmware. Examples of its capacity include 2,000 songs, or enough map data to implement GPS and points of interest for the entire western world.
The moviNAND card is around 10 to 20 per cent smaller than other flash-based embedded memory cards, and can process data at 52MB per second. It observes the eMMC standard. Once this memory goes into mass production in the summer, Samsung’s line of moviNAND memory will range from 512MB up to 8MB.
