Mac gets Google Desktop

As part of Google’s new-found commitment to the Mac platform, it has just released the Google Desktop application for OS X.
Working in much the same way as its Windows counterpart, but without gadgets or a toolbar, it allows users to search the hard drive of their Mac, as well as their Gmail account.
Of course, OS X already has the excellent Spotlight built-in, a feature that may have been a little sluggish when it first appeared but, several operating system revisions on, is fast and accurate.
The advantage of the Google Desktop is the ability to search the Internet, Gmail, and local hard drives at the same time.
It’s good to see Google taking the Mac platform seriously.
