Water found on distant planet

Planet HD 209458b is a Jupiter-like gas giant located 150 light-years away, in the constellation Pegasus. Astronomer Travis Barman, from the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, US, just published in the Astrophysical Journal that HD 209458b has water in its atmosphere. While there probably isn’t life like ours there, since as a gas giant it doesn’t have, er, ground for things to live on, finding water so far away bodes well for our own extra-planetary travels. [GT]
