Virgin Mobile offers Samsung U600 slider on pay-as-you-go

Looking for a mobile phone with a decent specification, but without the contract? You might like the look of the Samsung U600 slider phone, which is available from Virgin Mobile from this month, but obviously at a price.

The U600 is the latest handset in Samsung’s Ultra Edition range, with the trademark slimline looks (just 11.9mm wide) and plenty of useful everyday features. Those include a 3.2 megapixel camera, video capture and playback, expandable memory and an FM radio.

But freeing yourself from a contract does come at a price – £229.99 for a phone that would probably be free if you signed up for an 18-month commitment elsewhere.

  • But you still have to put up with that incredibly crappy and unintuitive interface. I love the look and feel of Samsung phones, (I’ve had three!) but give me a Sony Ericsson any day for operability.
