Sony adds mobile phone functionality to its Walkman NW-A808 media player

Sony seems to be going against the trend to add a media player to a mobile phone by doing the reverse – adding phone functionality to a Walkman.

If reports coming out of the Far East are to be believed, that’s the case with the latest version of the Sony Walkman NW-A808 player. Pictured here, the new version doesn’t look much different than existing models, except for the new colour choice of white or pink. But the 8GB Walkman is said to house basic mobile phone functionality, such as calling and texting, as well as music and video playback.

There’s no phone keys and no touch screen – the only keys are the ones you see. So we remain slightly sceptical until the official Japanese launch date of July 10th. It should retail for the equivalent of £140.
