Xbox 360 warranty extended to three years! Globally!
It looks like the whines of the world have paid off – Microsoft has announced an extension to its Xbox 360 warranty, covering all “Red Ring of Death” hardware failures for three years from the date of purchase.
An official press release over at MS insider news site Gamerscore Blog has all the details, but basically don’t worry – if your Xbox 360 breaks, it can be repaired for free from now on.
“The majority of Xbox 360 owners are having a great experience with their console and have from day one. But, this problem has caused frustration for some of our customers and for that, we sincerely apologize,” said Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft’s Entertainment & Devices Division, showing rare public humility from the computing giant.
Oh, and MS is also taking a one billion dollar hit on this – and will refund all out of warranty repairs carried out to date. This puts all of Bill Gates’ previous charity work to shame. Well done, MS. Best move you’ll ever make. Consider the internet happy today.

I had problem with red ring from day one. Then my xbox started working. Next the unit stopped working. We packed the unit and stored it due to having misplaced the receipt of purchase. Come to find out a lot of people we know had the same problem. I want a new unit!!!!!!! I paid top dollar for it. Where is the help right now?
