Skype problems leave users locked out – maybe until tomorrow
So much for the brave new world of VoIP. Anyone who relies on Skype for work (me, for instance) has been left gnashing their teeth this morning, after the service went down and stayed down, bar the odd false dawn.
Skype has ‘fessed up to the problems: “Our engineering team has determined that it’s a software issue,” says a statement on its blog. “We expect this to be resolved within 12 to 24 hours. Meanwhile, you can simply leave your Skype client running and as soon as the issue is resolved, you will be logged in. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
Apparently downloads of the Skype software have been temporarily disabled too. The above message was posted just after 2pm UK-time, meaning that potentially Skype won’t be up and running again until tomorrow afternoon.
