Virgin Digital music subscription/download site closing down
Virgin has announced that its Virgin Digital music service is to close down on 19th October.
From this Friday, no more music tracks will be sold, with site access limited to Club members only — who get streaming and “rental” download services — until the date of their next payment, at which point their subscription will be terminated.
UK users will be offered a free one-month subscription to the Virgin Media digital streaming jukebox, whereas US users will get a credit for Napster.
There’s no mention of the reasoning for this, but it does show what a tough market online music services operate in.
