Forget Pokemon, gotta collect all these Kaomoji-kun!

We’ve just been alerted to a new Japanese trend! Culture vultures and Western World otaku, take note!
The above little toy-things are called Kaomoji-kun, whose faces are made from Shift-JIS/ascii/emoticon style characters. There are various expressions available, and I’m already imagining them littering my office desk, inspiring me with the Skype emoticons. Apparently each little character has a different life story, and you’re meant to collect them all. They’re reportedly about ¥100, or 40p each over in Japan.
Super-kawaii!
