samsung-solid-o2-mobile.jpgThink the trend for rubbery handsets that bounce when you drop ’em was over? Think again. Samsung has unveiled the Samsung Solid, which it describes as its first “ultra durable” handset.

It’s going on sale with UK operator O2, and comes with an impressive list of tough features, including anti-shock, water, dust resistance and a built in torch. Although it’s also got Bluetooth and an FM radio, the VGA-resolution camera and dual-band GPRS are slightly disappointing.

Still, Samsung hopes to make up for that with an SOS dialing feature that automatically sends an alert to a nominated number if you press the volume button three times in quick succession, and then automatically answers the next call. Samsung is also promising super-long battery life.

The Solid will cost you £59.99 on Pay As You Go, or it’s free on a 12-month contract with O2.
