babelgum.pngInteractive web TV portal Babelgum has released over one thousand international film entries to public voting. These professionally produced short films are now available for anyone with a broadband connection to view and vote upon.

A shortlist will be created from the most popular user-voted films, which will go on to be judged by director Spike Lee and a professional panel.

Spike Lee spoke highly of the entries. “The standard of the entries we’ve received thus far has been outstanding. It just goes to show there is a wealth of talent out there that wouldn’t usually get recognition or exposure if it wasn’t for festivals such as this. It really does represent a new era in film-making and puts the filmmaker in more control of getting their productions seen.”

Valerio Zingarelli, CEO of Babelgum, said that three in five entries had been produced specifically for the small screen, supporting the notion that filmmakers need to go where their potential audience is.

One-quarter of the films are original, unseen content. 198 entries are from film students, and the average age of entrants is 29.

The seven award categories are: The Babelgum Short Film Award, The Babelgum Looking For Genius Award, The Babelgum Animation Award, The Babelgum Music Video Award, The Babelgum Social / Environment Award, The Babelgum Spot / Advertising Award, and The Babelgum Documentary Award.
