Jonas Samson's light-emitting wallpaper – imaginative, innovative & inspired
I’ve just started my Christmas list and this light-emitting wallpaper is at number one thanks to Dutch designer Jonas Samson.
Jonas has taken inspiration from the recent trends in textiles and the development of organic LEDs to create a quite beautiful solution to lighting and interior decoration.
I’m not exactly sure how it works beyond that but, thankfully, we are ensured it can be switched off and become “indistinguishable as a source of light”. So, even if you do eventually get sick of the design or wish to sell your property on, it can also just look like a piece of plain wallpaper. Very neat.
My first thought when I saw the picture was, “Wow, can I draw the light patterns myself?” Very quickly, I realised that wasn’t possible and a good thing too. I’ve a feeling the effect wouldn’t be quite as stunning with a series of stickmen and “Dan woz ere” scrawled on my walls, although it could give the toilet that authentic public lavatory feel. Add George Michael et voila!
