Google Android delayed until 2009
Fans of the eagerly awaited Google Android – the blissfully open mobile phone platform – look away now, and if your name is Steve Jobs prepare to cackle till dawn like an evil mad scientist in the moonlight. Android is being delayed until 2009.
According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, Google has spent so long tinkering around with their baby that mobile service providers will simply have no time to ready themselves for the Android enabled handsets.
It also appears as if Google has been taking great pains to assist T-Mobile US with their Android HTC “Dream” handset, which may still be available in the fourth quarter of this year, at the expense of its competitor, Sprint, or the world’s largest provider, China Mobile, both of whom do not expect to be releasing any phones on the Android platform until next year.
Even though there are a great number of people willing to wait for Android and many with distaste for what Apple has offered, it can only be a bonus for the iPhone as more time passes before good, open, competition can arrive.
