From 11th July, finding a high speed public Wi-Fi network for your iPhone could get a lot easier, as O2 has done a deal with BT Openzone to open up over 3,000 hotspots. iPhone users will then get free, unlimited access to these hotspots, just as they currently do on the Cloud network, with no change to their monthly tariff. The total number of free UK hotspots now available to iPhone users (or anyone who knows how to spoof it) will exceed 9,000, including 13 citywide networks, railway stations, airports, service stations, marinas, and coffee shops.

O2 UK and BT do have some history, so it’s good to see decent cooperation going on. It will be interesting to see if O2 rolls this out to other handsets on its network.
