Mozilla has announced that the Alpha 1 version of Firefox 3.1, intended only for developers and not anyone who wants to do everyday web browsing, is now available.
Code-named “Shiretoko”, new features include improved web standards and support for some newer style formatting including text and border shadows, improved JavaScript handling, improvements to the Smart Location Bar which allows for more specific searches, and new tab switching behaviour.
This release need not bother most users, and there’ll be plenty more releases like this, both alpha and beta, before the final release of version 3.1 arrives towards the end of the year.
